About the event

We are increasingly coming to understand the impact of inter-generational trauma not only on individuals and families, but on entire communities, cities and even countries. For more than 30 years, Systemic Constellations has been used for healing and releasing inter-generational trauma within family systems - as explored in the popular Netflix series, Another Self. In this workshop, we look at how we can bring healing to wider communities that have experienced trauma.

The human body’s natural response to extreme events is to shut down some aspects of the feeling self, through freezing and dissociation. This is an intelligent and necessary response in order to enable us to survive. However, trauma that is not processed is held in the body and, we now know, can be passed on to subsequent generations. This can also happen at the level of whole communities who have suffered from wars, persecution and other forms of extreme collective loss. The result of this can be repeating patterns of traumatisation, as those who are themselves traumatised can, in their turn, go on to traumatise others. Healing and releasing these patterns is vital work in this time for the healing of our communities and the wider healing of the world.

In this workshop we will use practices from Systemic Constellations to explore:

  • What past traumas are still alive in our communities today?
  • Who are those we still need to remember, honour and grieve for?
  • What else needs to be seen and acknowledged?
  • What do we need to accept that cannot be changed?
  • How can we move on with love and respect for each other?

About Systemic Constellations

In Systemic Constellations we use "living maps" where workshop participants stand in as "representatives" to represent different parts of the system we are looking at. This is a remarkably powerful diagnostic tool that helps us see the system in a new light. Through this map we can explore who may have been excluded, what is not being acknowledged, where historic loss and trauma has not been fully grieved or released. We can then work to re-include those who have been denied their rightful place, to acknowledge painful truths, to grieve what has been lost – and then to turn towards the future with a greater sense of lightness and hope.

Who is the workshop for?

This workshop is particularly for those who are working for positive social and environmental change, particularly if you are aware of how past traumas and injustices are still alive today and somehow block our progress in addressing important societal challenges.

The workshop is open to those with experience of Constellations and those who are new to it. Systemic Constellations are very embodied and intuitive, so the most important thing is to be open and willing to trust the process. Constellations can be powerful and intense, but typically they bring a great sense of release, relief and hope for the future.
